the Structure
(aceCY: a project on transparency and do-ocracy)
November 11 - December 31, 2015
We are building a Structure, an open participatory workspace, a modular transparent makerspace, or a durational interactive public art installation (!) for/with techies, artists, makers, inventors, and all sorts of idlers or people who like to play. The idea for the Structure is based on the principles of re-use, recycling, and reclamation of materials, as well as on the principles of radical inclusion, gifting, de-commodification, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibility, “Leaving No Trace,” participation, and immediacy. The project’s politics are those of do-ocracy, of making, openness, freedom, transparency, and collaboration.
In this spirit we invite you to
- come join us in gathering tools and re-usable materials
- build a Structure and add to it gradually as new ideas and needs come up
- talk about relevant types of work / demos / prototypes
- party!
**Opening Event:
Bring Your Own Light

**For the next two months we’ll be improvising with different types of making, and various actions, workshops, and parties at the Structure. You can take part, stay updated and suggest stuff to do at these links

Τhe idea was developed by the people at hack66 in conversation with friends from the Lefkoşa Hackerspace, and with the accumulated genius of the ARTos Foundation. The project received initial encouragement by Burning Man Arts, which called for experimental and radically participatory public art projects, but in the end it didn’t get funded. The concept was reformulated and is now taking place with the support of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture, and the Home for Cooperation, in collaboration with various Cyprus-based organizations, as well as any and all interested groups and individuals. This is a way for us to research and find tools and solutions in preparation for the zombie apocalypse and the changes of environmental conditions ahead. Get in touch if you have an idea about the kind of resources we should be working with.

The UN should also be mentioned. We’ll be relying on their help / permission / legal authority a lot. The principle of radical inclusion seems especially interesting to try and apply on the Green Line considering definitions of Cypriot citizenship, immigration policy, and states of exception.
